Hybrid lubes in the USA
A hybrid lube mixes a water base with some silicone: it usually glides for longer than a water-based one and washes off more easily than a silicone one. To choose, check the product page for the texture, thin or thick, and the use it is made for: vaginal, anal or masturbation.

What is a hybrid lube?
It is a lubricant whose formula combines water and silicone. The water gives it a light feel, similar to natural lubrication, and the silicone makes it take longer to dry. It sits halfway between water-based lubricants, which absorb sooner and wash off with water alone, and silicone-based lubricants, which last longer but need soap to remove. You can use it solo or with a partner, and it is usually chosen when a water-based one runs short in long sessions.
Types of hybrid lubes
Within the category, the main differences are the texture and the use each one is formulated for.
Eros is the brand with the most products on this page, eleven: the Hybride line (Power Bodyglide, Power Bodylube and Power Anal), the Fisting SlideX and UltraX gels, the Classic Line masturbation cream and two with CBD. For the Power Bodylube, the manufacturer states 80% water and 20% silicone. Stimul8 has five S8 products: the original hybrid, Cannabis, Cum Glide, Extreme and Fist Extra Thick. The page is rounded out by the Lube Tube Anal from Orgie (Comfort and Sensitive), Sliquid Silk (Naturals and Organics), Lubrax from Intimateline, ID Silk Natural Feel, Skins Fusion, Loving Joy Silk, Lubido Hybrid, Excite Luxuria and the organic hybrid from Secret Play.
- All-purpose: a thin or silky texture, for vaginal penetration, masturbation or toys.
- Anal: thicker, so the lubricant stays in place. There are more options in anal lubricants.
- Extra thick: very dense gels made for fisting and for play that needs a lot of product.
- With CBD or cannabis: they include this ingredient in the formula; check the full list on the product page.
- Organic: made with plant-derived ingredients, such as aloe vera, according to each manufacturer.
How to choose
- Use: the product page says whether it is for vaginal use, anal use, masturbation or fisting; pick the one that matches what you plan to do.
- Texture: thin if you want a light feel; thick or extra thick for anal sex or long sessions.
- Ingredients: if you have sensitive skin, check the list and look out for glycerine, fragrances or CBD.
- Condoms: check that the product page states it is compatible with latex before using it with a condom.
- Size: bottles range from 30 ml to 500 ml; a small one lets you try the texture before moving up to a large one.
Hybrid lubes: frequently asked questions
Can you use a hybrid lube with silicone toys?
It depends on the formula. Because it contains silicone, it can damage the surface of some silicone toys. Skins Fusion, Sliquid Naturals Silk, Lubido Hybrid, Loving Joy Silk and the organic hybrid from Secret Play are stated to be toy-safe; even so, if yours is silicone, test it on the base first or use a water-based one.
Is it compatible with condoms?
Only if the product page says so. Of the ones here, those stated to be safe with condoms are the S8 Cannabis, Cum Glide and Extreme from Stimul8, Lubido Hybrid, Loving Joy Silk, Sliquid Naturals Silk, Excite Luxuria, Lubrax, ID Silk and the Eros Hybride products. For the rest, check the product page or the packaging before using it with a condom.
How do you clean up a hybrid lube?
With warm water and a little soap. It comes off more easily than a silicone one, although it may leave a thin film that water alone does not remove.
Does it stain sheets?
It may leave a mark because of the silicone. Wash your bedding as soon as you can or put a towel underneath.
How much silicone is in a hybrid lube?
It depends on the brand, and few say. The Eros Power Bodylube states 80% water and 20% silicone. If it matters to you, because of a toy or your skin, check the ingredients list: silicone usually appears as dimethicone.
Hybrid, water-based or silicone: which should you choose?
Go for water-based if you will use it with silicone toys or want it to wash off with water alone. Go for silicone-based if you want it to last as long as possible or will use it in the shower. Go for a hybrid if a water-based one dries out too soon on you and a silicone one is a hassle to wash off.
