The essentials
Pjur Aqua: what you need to know before you buy
Is it for you?
Who Pjur Aqua is for, and who it isn't for
It suits you if…
- You want a water-based lubricant.
- You want one that is fragrance-free and has no oils or fats.
- You want to choose the size: there are 30, 100, 250 and 500 ml bottles.
- You are going to use it with latex or polyisoprene condoms, or with sex toys.
- You want it for vaginal dryness: it is one of the uses the manufacturer states.
Better look elsewhere if…
- You're looking for a contraceptive. This lubricant isn't one and has no spermicide.
- You want a scented lubricant. This one has no fragrance.
- You prefer a lubricant that doesn't absorb. Water-based lubricants like this one absorb with use, so you may need to add more.
Step by step
How to use Pjur Aqua
- Apply as much as you like to the intimate area. The manufacturer states it is for the penis and the vaginal area, and it can be used daily.
- Put it on the outside of the condom, if you use one, once the condom is already on.
- Add a little more when it starts to dry out. Water-based lubricants get absorbed as you use them.
- Do not reuse lubricant you have already taken out of the pack: each portion is for single use.
- Close the bottle tightly after use.
After use
If you have put on too much, it can be removed with lukewarm water. Store it at room temperature and protected from sunlight.
Manufacturer's warnings
- Avoid contact with the eyes and with irritated skin or mucous membranes. Use it only on healthy skin and mucous membranes.
- If you notice irritation and it doesn't go away, consult a doctor.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
- It is not a contraceptive or a spermicide.
- There is a risk of slipping if it falls onto smooth surfaces.
What the science says
What the science says about water-based lubricants
The studies we cite did not test this lubricant. What has been studied is the use of water-based and silicone lubricants in general.
In a 5-week diary, water-based lubricants were associated with fewer genital symptoms than silicone ones. Both types were associated with more sexual pleasure and satisfaction. This is an association, not a cause-and-effect relationship.
