Pjur OriginalSilicone, with no perfume or added flavours.

Pjur Original is a silicone-based lubricant: it isn't absorbed and stays on the surface of the skin, so a few drops are enough. It comes in six sizes, from 1.5 ml to 1,000 ml.

Is it for you?

Who the Pjur Original is for, and who it isn't

It suits you if…

  • You want a silicone lubricant with long-lasting glide.
  • You prefer one with no perfume, added flavours or preservatives.
  • You want to choose between a 1.5 ml size and one of up to 1000 ml.
  • You'd like one product for lubricating and for gentle body massage.
  • You're going to use it with latex condoms: the manufacturer lists it as compatible.

Better look elsewhere if…

  • You prefer a water-based lubricant. This one is silicone.
  • You want it for silicone toys. For those, a water-based lubricant is better.
  • You want one that washes off with just water. This one comes off with water and mild soap.

Step by step

How to use Pjur Original

  1. Put a few drops on your fingers and spread them over the area you want to lubricate.
  2. With a latex condom, put it on first and apply the lubricant on the outside, as the manufacturer instructs.
  3. Add more only if it feels dry. Always start with a little.
  4. For a massage, spread it over the skin with the palms of your hands.
  5. Wash afterwards with soap and water. A silicone-based lubricant doesn't come off with water alone.

After use

Wash your skin with water and mild soap. If it gets on sheets or clothes, wash them soon, as silicone can stain. Close the container tightly and store it at room temperature, away from sunlight, as the manufacturer instructs.

Manufacturer's warnings and our own tips

  • With silicone toys, it's better to use a water-based lubricant. A silicone one can damage the surface of some toys.
  • If you have sensitive skin or allergies, try a drop on the inside of your arm first. If it itches or turns red, don't use it.
  • If you feel stinging or irritation, stop and wash with soap and water.
  • According to the manufacturer: avoid contact with the eyes and with irritated skin or mucous membranes, and use it only on healthy skin and mucous membranes.
  • According to the manufacturer: if the irritation doesn't go away, see a doctor.
  • According to the manufacturer: it is not a contraceptive or a spermicide.
  • According to the manufacturer: keep it out of the reach of children.
  • According to the manufacturer: there is a risk of slipping on smooth surfaces. Clean up anything that spills on the floor.
  • According to the manufacturer: the amount you take from the container is for single use and is not reused.

The steps follow Pjur's directions for use. The warnings that start with “According to the manufacturer” are theirs; the rest are our own tips, general for a silicone lubricant.

What the science says

What the science says about silicone and water-based lubricants

The studies we cite did not test this lubricant. What was studied is the use of water-based and silicone lubricants in general.

2,453
adult women who used one of six water-based or silicone lubricants

In a 5-week diary, water-based lubricants were associated with fewer genital symptoms than silicone ones. Both types were associated with greater sexual pleasure and satisfaction. This is not a cause-and-effect comparison.

Questions

Pjur Original: frequently asked questions

Is the Pjur Original water-based or silicone?

Silicone. It is not a water-based lubricant.

What sizes does the Pjur Original come in?

Six: 1.5 ml, 30 ml, 100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml and 1000 ml.

Does the Pjur Original have a smell or taste?

It has no perfume or added flavours, according to the manufacturer, and the product information describes it as having no smell and no taste. That doesn't make it edible: the manufacturer indicates it for the genital area and for massage, and doesn't say it can be swallowed.

Can you use the Pjur Original with condoms?

Yes with latex ones: the manufacturer lists it as compatible. Put the condom on first and apply the lubricant on the outside. If yours is made of another material, check the label on the container first.

Is the Pjur Original good for massage?

Yes. As well as lubricating, you can use it for gentle body massage.

Does the Pjur Original last long?

Yes, according to the manufacturer: silicone stays on the surface of the skin and isn't absorbed, so a few drops are enough and you don't need to reapply often.
