Realistic dildos in the USA

A realistic dildo is a dildo that copies the anatomy of an erect penis: veins, a defined glans, a natural skin tone and, often, testicles. They come in silicone, TPE or cyberskin, with a suction cup, with vibration or for use with a harness. To choose, look first at the diameter and the insertable length, then at the material.

What is a realistic dildo?

It is a dildo shaped like an erect penis: glans, a shaft with defined veins and, in many models, testicles. It aims to look and feel like a real penis, and it is used for vaginal or anal penetration, solo or with a partner: held in the hand, stuck down with a suction cup or attached to a harness. There are models from 12 cm to more than 30 cm long, in materials ranging from budget PVC to dual-density silicone, the top of the range. If you prefer abstract shapes, see the rest of the dildos; if you want one with two ends, see the double dildos.

Types of realistic dildos

They all copy the anatomy; what changes is the base, the density and what is inside. There are models from All Black, Get Real or Basecock, among other brands.

  • With suction cup: they stick to the floor, the wall or the bath for hands-free use, and many also work with a harness.
  • With testicles: as well as adding realism, they act as a stopper; some have swinging balls that sway.
  • Dual or triple density: a firm core and a soft outer layer, so it feels firm inside and soft outside.
  • Curved or G-spot: the tip angles forward to reach that area more easily.
  • With vibration: they have a motor; the product page says whether they are fully waterproof (submersible) or only splashproof.
  • With simulated ejaculation: they release a liquid to imitate ejaculation.

Materials: what they feel like and which to buy

A porous material has micropores where residue can remain, so it needs more careful cleaning.

  • Dual-density silicone: a firm core surrounded by a soft layer gives the feel closest to an erect penis. It is body-safe, can be sterilised if it has no motor and is the best material available. Brands such as Vixen Creations or BMS Factory use it. You will find more in silicone dildos.
  • Cyberskin: it has the most realistic feel of all, almost like skin. It is porous and needs upkeep: careful cleaning and powder.
  • TPE: it is soft and flexible, gives good realism and is cheaper than silicone. It is porous. On many product pages you will see TPR, a similar soft material: look after it the same way.
  • PVC: it is firm and inexpensive, less realistic to the touch. It is not porous.
  • Glass and metal: they are not realistic, but they have their own advantages: they can be cooled or warmed, they are very firm and they can be sterilised. The glass ones are in glass dildos.

Care and safety

Wash it with warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner before and after use, and let it air dry. Use a water-based lubricant: it works with all materials, whereas a silicone-based one can damage the surface of a silicone toy.

Do not move it from anal to vaginal use without washing it or changing the condom. If you share it, put a new condom on it for each person. In a case-control study of 324 men with HIV who have sex with men in Mexico, sharing sex toys was an independent risk factor for hepatitis C infection (Mata-Marín et al., 2022, PLoS One).

Check the material on the product page too. In a laboratory pilot study with extracts from 20 sex toys, with no participants, some samples showed cytotoxicity, sensitising potential or endocrine effects. Those results were repeated in the ABS, PVC and latex samples (Svobodova et al., 2020, Regul Toxicol Pharmacol).

How to choose

  • Size: the product page gives the total length and the diameter. The total includes the base, so the part that goes in is somewhat shorter. To start with, something slimmer is better.
  • Material: choose silicone if you want something easy to clean. If you prefer the softest feel, choose TPE, TPR or cyberskin, bearing in mind that they are porous. If the product page does not state the material, look after it as if it were porous.
  • Density: “dual density” or “triple density” in the name means a firm core with a soft outer layer.
  • Base: a suction cup lets you use it hands-free. If you want it for a harness, check that the product page says it is compatible.
  • Flexibility: the product page says whether it is flexible or rigid. A flexible one adapts better to the curves of the body.
  • Vibration and water: if it has a motor, check whether it runs on batteries or a rechargeable battery and whether it is fully waterproof (submersible) or only splashproof.

Realistic dildos: frequently asked questions

What size of realistic dildo should I choose?

To start with, one of 13-16 cm total length (10-13 cm insertable) and 3-3.5 cm in diameter. For regular use, one of 16-20 cm and 3.5-4.5 cm in diameter. The measurements include the base, so the real insertable length is 2-3 cm less, and diameter affects the feeling of fullness more than length does.

What is the difference between a realistic dildo and a non-realistic one?

The shape. A realistic one copies the anatomy (veins, glans, testicles, skin tone), while a non-realistic one has abstract shapes, fantasy colours or geometric designs. The difference is visual and psychological: both work for penetration, so choose whichever you like more.

How do I keep a cyberskin dildo like new?

Wash it after every use with warm water and mild soap, let it dry completely in the air and apply renewing powder, which comes with many models. Store it in a cloth bag without touching toys of other materials, because they can react chemically. With this care it lasts 1-2 years.

Can a realistic dildo be used anally?

Yes, if it has testicles or a wide base that stops it going in completely. Start with a slim diameter and use plenty of anal lubricant.

Does the suction cup hold in the shower?

Yes, on tile, glass or another smooth, non-porous surface. On rough paint or unvarnished wood it does not grip. If the model has a motor and the product page says it is only splashproof, do not put it under the water jet.

Can it be used with a harness?

Yes, if the product page says it is compatible. The base needs a rim wider than the harness ring so that it stays held in place behind it, and the shaft has to pass through the ring.

Can a realistic dildo be boiled?

Only if it is silicone without a motor, glass or metal, and confirm the material on the product page first. TPE, TPR, cyberskin and PVC should not be boiled, because they can deform. Wash them with warm water and mild soap.
